Jamestown Philomenian Library is a member of the Ocean State Libraries consortium . Your public library card may be used at any public library in Rhode Island. If JPL does not have an item you are looking for, you may request it through our statewide delivery service at no charge.
A library card is free for Rhode Island residents. Non-residents may purchase a full-use card for $171 per year. Photo identification and proof of current address are required, and non-resident applicants must apply in person.
Acceptable Rhode Island Identification
If you live in Rhode Island, you may present one of the following valid Rhode Island IDs:
- Current Rhode Island driver’s license (address must be current or updated on the back)
- Current Rhode Island State ID
- Current photo learner’s permit
Applicants Without a Rhode Island ID
If you do not currently have a Rhode Island ID, you may present two items from the following categories:
- Another photo ID, such as a passport or work ID
- Proof of Rhode Island residency, such as:
- Personal or payroll check
- Cable, phone, or utility bill
- Proof of mailing (U.S. Postal Service mail)
- Tax bill or receipt
- Bus pass with address
- Statement from a homeless or other shelter
- Bank statement
Local Use Only Cards
Individuals who work in Rhode Island but live out of state may be issued a Local Use Only card at no charge. Proof of employment (work ID or pay stub) and verification of home address are required. This card may only be used at the Jamestown Philomenian Library.
Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when applying for a library card.
Cardholders are responsible for all items checked out on their library card.
Expiration: Library cards must be renewed every three years. Proof of Rhode Island residency is required at renewal.
