There was a water leak in the Youth Services area on Monday, January 26th. This wing will be closed until further notice. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to our Youth population. The Sydney Wright Room is being used for storage during this time, so it will be unavailable. The rest of the library is open for normal business. We thank you for your understanding.

Youth Chess Instruction (Grades 2-8)

Youth Chess Instruction

Children in grades 2-8 are invited to join our pilot chess program!

This free, instructional program meets afterschool on the following Wednesdays:

    • March 26
    • April 23 
    • May 28


Participants will meet at the following times based on skill-level and previous knowledge: 

    • 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Novice—student is unfamiliar with the basic rules and movements
    • 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm: Beginner—student is familiar with the basic rules and movements but rarely plays
    • 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm: Intermediate—student plays occasionally and wants to improve


Space is limited; registration is required. To register: please email Colleen at colleen@jplri.org. Provide the child's name, grade, and skill-level. When registering, you are signing-up for all three sessions.
